Works at: University of Delaware Research in the South Pacific: I'm making in-situ chemical measurements using tiny electrodes inserted into a "wand" that the submersible Jason can poke into all sorts of places on the seafloor. By running electrochemical scans from a notebook computer on the ship, I can look at the chemistry of the water surrounding the wand. I'll also be analyzing water samples that Jason brings back to the ship. Bio snippet: I was born, raised and educated in Darwin, Australia. My interest in science dates back to when my primary school teacher asked the class "Why are pebbles that you find on the beach smooth?" When I'm not in the lab, I'll be doing my best to separate myself from work — reading and watching movies. I also enjoy playing sports and exercising, which is a great way for me to de-stress and stay in shape… this will be a challenge onboard the Melville as the food dished out so far has been awesome! | |
